举例
The bald eagle has been an official symbol of the United States for more than 200 years. Now it will share the spotlight with another American animal—the bison. Last spring, this giant, shaggy creature (1)__________(become) the country's national mammal.
Bison, also known as buffalo, are the (2)__________(big) land animals in North America. They have played a big role in our nation’s history.
Long ago, there were millions of bison in the U. S., many of (3)__________lived in the grassy prairies of the Great Plains. For hundreds of years, American Indians in that region depended (4) __________bison meat for food. They used the hides to make clothing and shelters, and the bones to make tools.
Later, many (5)__________(settle) moved to the Great Plains to set up farms and towns. They began hunting bison in large numbers. By 1900, the creatures had almost died out. Only about 1,000 bison (6)__________(leave).
Since then, people have worked hard to save the bison. Today, there are more than 400,000 bison in the U. S. They live in (7)__________(protect) areas and on ranches all over the nation. Their comeback is seen as a great success story.
(8)__________(recognize) the bison’s importance in U. S. history, wildlife groups and American Indian tribes asked U. S. lawmakers to make the animal a national symbol. Lawmakers passed a bill, (9)__________ plan for a law, to do that. President Barack Obama then signed the bill into law. U. S. Senator John Hogeveen of North Dakota was one lawmaker who pushed to get the law passed. “The bison is a (10)__________(magnificence) animal,” he told Scholastic News. “It’s a great symbol for a great country.”
(4) on; 根据固定搭配:depend on 依赖于,可知,此处填on
(9) or; 分析句子结构,和句意之前,应填并列连词or,a bill,与 plan for a law表选择关系
