Topic 3 Many things can affect our feelings.

I.Teaching objectives
1. Knowledge objectives
①Make the students use the following words and phrases correctly: have a test, get nervous, give a speech, follow one’s advice, fall off, get frightened…
②Master some useful ways to give suggestions.
2. Ability objectives
①Be able to get the main information while listening to the tape.Make sure most of students can do some simple exercises after listening.
②Enable students to express themselves in front of class bravely.
③Have the ability of comprehending the teachers’ questions and be positive to answer.
3. Emotion objectives
Through different class activities ,students can not only build up their confidence to learn English well ,but also cultivate the awareness to care for others and offer advice to help.

Step 1. Greeting
Greet the students in class in English and make sure them respond correctly.Get them ready for class.
T:How are you doing today?
Ss:Fine/Pretty good/Very well......
Step 2. Warm-up
Let the students watch a flash If you are happy,and follow the actions to warm up.Then ask a question:
T:How do you feel after enjoying the music?
Ss:Happy/Excited......
Step 3. Pre-listening
1. Questions and Answers between the teacher and students.
T:I feel happy ,too. As we can see, music can affect our feelings.In fact ,many things can affect our feelings in our life.Here are some questions.
So how do you feel when you have no friend to talk with//your sister broke your favorite toy//......
2.Show a picture of the exam countdown.Let the students make a similar Q&A.
3.Look at the picture in 1a and raise students’ curiosity Then let Ss read through 1b and predict the answers.
Step 4. While-listening
1.Listen to the dialogue and answer questions in 1b.
①What is Michael worried about?
②How does he feel when he has to give a speech?
③What is Kangkang’s suggestion ?
④Do you think Michael will do well in the speech?
2.Listen to 1a again and read along the flash in 1a at the same time.
Step 5. Post-listening
1. Read 1a with the partners then fill in the blanks in 1c.
2. Retell 1a according to the mind map.
3. Group work
Discuss the two questions of 2 in groups and ask some students to express themselves in front of class.
4. Listening practice
①Talk about the pictures in 3. Read the sentences and the suggestions.
②Listen to the conversations and match the problems with the people, and then complete the suggestions.
5. Study six basic structures of simple sentences.
Step 6. Summary
Go over the main points in this section.
VI. Homework design
1. Watch the film The King’s Speech in your free time and talk about your ideas on this film with your friends in English.
