Lesson11: Clothes around the World

LESSON STRUCTURE
CLASS OPENING
Greeting
Greet the class. Say: Good morning/afternoon, Class. How are you today?
Ask some students to reply.
Review
1) Homework check.
2) Review the previous lesson.
KEY CONCEPTS
Focus structures:
I am/ He/ She is wearing…
They are wearing…
My/ His/ Her/ Your/ Their … look/ looks…
I/ They look… (in my/ their…).
He/ She looks … (in his/ her…)
Adjectives: colourful, beautiful, traditional, pretty
Step1: Present
1) Put up a picture of the world and say:
What does “world” mean?
Different people wear different clothes around the world. Explain “different”. Hold up two different books and say:
These two books are different.
Explain “same”. Hold up two books that the same
“Different” and “same” are opposites.
2) Ask the students to look at the pictures in Lesson 11 and name some
of the clothes they can see. Then ask:
What does “traditional” mean?
Ask the students to point to the pictures of people in traditional clothes and say:
He /She is or They are wearing traditional clothes.
What is a uniform?
Ask the students to point to the pictures of people in uniforms and say:
They are wearing their uniforms.
Step2: Read and discuss
1) INDIVIDUAL WORK: Ask the students to read Lesson11 silently.
2) PAIR WORK: Have the students discuss the questions in Let’s Do It! No.1 with a partner.
3) CLASS WORK: Ask the class to read Lesson11 aloud. Then ask some students to share their answers with the class and have a discussion.
Step3: Listen
CLASS WORK: Let’s Do It! No.2
Play the audiotape for Lesson 11and complete the activity. Check the answers as a class.
Step4: Practice
Ask five volunteers to come to the front. Give each volunteer a piece of clothing to wear. One at a time, ask the volunteers:
Do you like your/Do you like to wear…(clothes)?
Allow each volunteer to respond, then ask the other students in the class to describe one of the volunteers. Say:
How do they look?
Students may say:
(Volunteer’s name) is wearing a pink dress. She looks pretty.
(Volunteer’s name)’s yellow hat looks good.
(Volunteer’s name) looks nice in his green shorts.
Step5: Task
1) The students can complete Let’s Do It! No.4 independently or in pairs.
2) Tell the students that they will present their completed task at the start of the next class. If necessary, the students may complete the task for homework.
CLASS CLOSSING
1) Chant Colourful clothes
2) Assign homework:
Complete Let’s Do It! No.3 and No.4.
