    The first chocolate was found by people in America several hundred years ago. In those days, people did not really eat chocolate, the cocoa bean ( 可可豆 ) was used to make a chocolate drink that people enjoyed very much. Later, the cocoa bean was brought across to Europe and people there also came to love the taste of it. 

In 1824, John Cadbury opened a small shop to sell drinks made from cocoa powder ( 粉 ). In 1831, he opened a small factory to make cocoa powder from cocoa beans. He encouraged people to drink chocolate instead of alcohol ( 酒 ) because he believed that if people drank too much alcohol, they would become poor. A few years later, a man named Joseph Fry invented a way to make chocolate bars, and for the first time people had the chance to eat chocolate instead of only drinking it. At first, chocolate was expensive. When more and more chocolate bars were made and sold, it became cheaper. In 1897, a man of the Cadbury’s family put milk into the chocolate. This Cadbury’s Milk Bar has been a best seller in Britain and around the world for nearly 100 years.
