[00:14.26]He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing
[00:18.74]Aron Ralston is an American man who is
[00:21.86]interested in mountain climbing.
[00:24.31]As a mountain climber, Aron is used to taking risks.
[00:28.63]This is one of the exciting things about doing dangerous sports.
[00:32.81]There were many times when Aron almost
[00:35.63]lost his life because of accidents.
[00:38.11]On April 26, 2003,
[00:41.81]he found himself in a very dangerous
[00:44.12]situation when climbing in Utah.
[00:46.21]On that day,
[00:47.89]Aron's arm was caught under a 360-kilo rock
[00:52.67]that fell on him when he was climbing by himself in the mountains.
[00:56.74]Because he could not free his arm,
[00:59.49]he stayed there for five days
[01:02.18]and hoped that someone would find him.
[01:05.06]But when his water ran out, he knew that
[01:08.01]he would have to do something to save his own life.
[01:11.25]He was not ready to die that day.
[01:14.20]So he used his knife to cut off half his right arm.
[01:18.60]Then, with his left arm,
[01:20.39]he bandaged himself so that he would not lose too much blood.
[01:24.19]After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help.
[01:28.32]After losing his arm,
[01:30.58]he wrote a book called Between a Rock and a Hard Place.
[01:34.34]This means being in a difficult situation
[01:37.50]that you cannot seem to get out of.
[01:39.65]In this book, Aron tells of the importance of making
[01:43.63]good decisions, and of being in control of one's life.
[01:47.32]His love for mountain climbing is so great that he kept on
[01:51.28]climbing mountains even after this experience.
[01:54.11]Do we have the same spirit as Aron?
[01:57.46]Let's think about it before we find ourselves

[02:03.70]and before we have to make a decision that could mean life or death.
